International Accounting and Finance

The increasing influence of international financial reporting standards and the shortage in some countries of international accounting expertise have led to significant demand for relevant education. The course reflects these developments and provides a solid foundation for students seeking a qualification as a Chartered Accountant of international standing or for those students looking to understand recent developments and key trends in international finance.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2nd Class Honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply. If English is not the applicant's 1st language, evidence of proficiency must be provided such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in all bands). If the applicant does not meet the required score it may be possible to register for 1 of our pre-sessional English courses. To register applicants must hold a conditional offer for a course and have an IELTS score 0.5 or 1.0 below the required standard.

Course modules

Semester 1: Financial reporting; corporate finance; accounting and society; quantitative methods in finance.
Semester 2 offers a choice of either the following two modules: Research methods; financial statement analysis.
Alternatively 50 credits from either/or Accounting or Finance Grouping: Accounting grouping; topics in international accounting; advanced financial reporting; finance grouping; derivatives; investments and portfolio management; mergers and acquisitions; international corporate finance; behavioural finance; financial statement analysis

Assessment methods

Successful completion of the taught modules leads to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma. The Master's degree is awarded on, satisfactory completion of a dissertation, following the Diploma examinations.
