Main research areas are: Applied formal methods; computational intelligence; communications and service engineering; Stirling applied non-linear dynamics; current research projects include: mobilising advanced technologies for care at home; dynamical information processing in a neuronal microcircuit; mathematical models of the dynamics and control of parasites in fish populations; identification of intensity points in x-ray diffraction patterns using genetic algorithms; diagnosis and optimal treatment recommendation for progressive illnesses (DOTPI); proactive condition monitoring of sensor networks (PROSEN); CARMEN: code analysis, repository and modelling for e-neuroscience; the development of soil analysis support system for archaeologists (SASSA); immuno-epidemiology of nematode infections: the causes and consequences of density dependent interactions.

Entry requirements

1st or Upper 2nd Class UK Honours degree in an appropriate discipline (usually computing or mathematics) or equivalent; mature students with a lower class of degree may be accepted for research in computing science if they have substantial work experience of computing; IELTS 6.0.

Sponsorship information

Limited number of competitive studentships available (some departmental, some EPSRC).
