Hydrogeology

Throughout the globe, the issues of water scarcity, water security, water economics and health and sanitation all rely on high-quality hydrogeology knowledge. This course will prepare you as a functional hydrogeologist to meet the needs of: Industry; regulators; non-governmental organisations; government; consultants. The course provides you with the theoretical and practical skills to succeed in a career as a hydrogeologist. You'll develop sound fieldwork skills which are sought-after by employers.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Aquifer mechanics; contaminated land; global water policy; groundwater flow modelling; qualitative and quantitative research methods; environmental chemistry; site investigation and risk assessment; hydrogeology. Elective classes: Environmental impact assessment; fundamentals of environmental forensics; geographical information systems; independent study in collaboration with industry; waste management and landfill design; water and environmental management; principles of environmental microbiology; engineering hydrology.

The Department of Civil Engineering/David Livingstone Centre for Sustainability at the University of Strathclyde offers fees-only Excellence Awards to UK/EU students; in addition, £1,000 Excellence Awards for overseas students are also available; the awards are allocated based on the quality of the student but applying early increases the chances of successful allocation.
