This course has 3 optional specialist streams: structural engineering and project management; geotechnical engineering and project management; geoenvironmental engineering and project management.

Course modules

Compulsory classes; for all msc civil engineering students (including specialist streams); civil engineering design projects; research protocols for science and engineering; compulsory classes. For students undertaking msc civil engineering with structural engineering and project management: advanced structural analysis and design; prestressed concrete, composite materials and structural stability; ground improvement and reinforcement; project management; compulsory classes. For students undertaking msc civil engineering with geotechnical engineering and project management: rock mechanics, tunnelling and groundwater; ground improvement and reinforcement; slopes and walls; project management; compulsory classes. For students undertaking msc civil engineering with geoenvironmental engineering and project management: site investigation and risk assessment; contaminated land management; waste management and landfill design; project management; elective classes; list a; ground improvement and reinforcement; site investigation and risk assessment; advanced structural analysis and design; prestressed concrete, composite materials and structural stability; waste management and landfill design; project management; rock mechanics, tunnelling and groundwater; hydrogeology; groundwater flow modelling; aquifer mechanics; structural design; renewable energy marine systems; slopes and walls; contaminated land; list b; global water policy; financial engineering; principles of environmental microbiology; fundamentals of environmental forensics; science, technology and innovation policy; environmental pollution management; air pollution, climate change and human health; independent study in collaboration with industry; transport development and sustainability; geographical information systems (gis); design management; pollution and rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems; water and wastewater treatment design; risk management; environmental impact assessment; city systems and infrastructure.
