Process Technology and Management

This course uses a project and work-based approach and operates mainly by distance learning to both UK based and International students, to enable delegates to spend the minimum time off-the-job. The programme meets the development needs of graduates from a range of engineering, technology and science disciplines (e.g. chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, control engineers, chemists) and is relevant to a broad range of type and size of company throughout the chemical and process sectors.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree from a UK university in a relevant engineering technology or science discipline; entry may be possible with other qualifications provided there is evidence of relevant experience & ability to study at an advanced level.

Course modules

The Master's requires 12 taught modules (8 core and 4 elective) and a work-based project (equivalent to 3 modules); the diploma requires 10 modules and the certificate 5 modules; the key areas of the programme content are weighted as follows: Process technology 50 per cent; management and business 30 per cent; information technology 20 per cent; for graduates in disciplines other than chemical engineering, foundation or bridging modules in chemical engineering are available.

Assessment methods

Assessment is normally by written assignment and exam although some modules will require a project report or practical piece of work to be completed in place of an exam. The final year of the MSc includes a major project which is intended to be completed in the workplace.
