Environmental Entrepreneurship

Students on this course explore new ventures, strategies, products, and technologies that address society's environmental and natural resource problems.

Entry requirements

Normally, a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK University or equivalent Overseas qualification; all disciplines accepted, although business/management, technology/engineering or environmental-related are particularly relevant; IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90-95 IBT or 600.

Course modules

Core modules: client-based environmental entrepreneurship in practice; entrepreneurial capital; environmental business strategy; opportunity and creativity; qualitative and quantitative research methods. Optional modules: Climate change mitigation and adaptation; ecology, biodiversity and sustainability; electrical power systems; energy modelling and monitoring; energy resources and policy; entrepreneurship, innovation and commercialisation; environmental management systems; global water policy; pollution control policy; principles of sustainability; recent trends in technological progress.

The Department of Civil Engineering/David Livingstone Centre for Sustainability at the University of Strathclyde offers fees-only Excellence Awards to UK/EU students; in addition, £1,000 Excellence Awards for overseas students are also available; the awards are allocated based on the quality of the student but applying early increases the chances of successful allocation.
