Global Innovation Management
This course is offered jointly by the University of Strathclyde (Scotland), Aalborg University (Denmark) and Hamburg University of Technology (Germany), which enables graduates of first degrees in engineering, science and technology to successfully manage the innovation process across international boundaries.
2nd Class Honours degree in an engineering, science or technology subject and an appropriate level of competence in the English language, specifically IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 550/213/79.
All students undertake a common 1st year with practical experience of working within globally distributed teams and with an industrial client on product/service development briefs; compulsory classes: Innovation management; strategic technology management; design management; design methods; supply chain management; manufacturing and business strategy; product development; project global design; optional modules (2 can be chosen): people organisation and technology; design for manufacture and assembly; total quality and continuous improvement; production branding and promotion; the 1st semester of the 2nd year is spent either studying in Germany or on an industrial internship in Denmark; the course concentrates on market research, cross-functional cooperation within the front end of the innovation process, managing innovation projects and preparing the market introduction of new products and services; the internship provides global innovation management work experience during which students deliver a project to the host Danish company
In the final semester all students undertake a thesis project, supervised jointly between the 2nd-year host institution and another partner institution.
