Children and Young People's Literacy, Language and Literature

This course will deepen an understanding of the complex research and practice of literacy, language and children's literature. Exploring how to give children and young people the best start in life by promoting literacy, language and literature and learn to apply different theoretical lenses, to understand practical problems.

Entry requirements

A degree or relevant professional qualification; or a combination of qualifications and experience demonstrating capacity for postgraduate study. For postgraduate studies, the University of Strathclyde requires a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5 (no individual test score below 6.0) or equivalent. Tests are valid for 2 years.

Course modules

Supporting literacy development; children's literature and literary theory; teaching literacy across all school subjects; semester 2; creativity, literacies and emotional-social development; language and literacy development in childhood; environments for learning literacy, language and literature; med modules; dissertation 1: methods and ethics; dissertation 2: final report.

Assessment methods

The course is assessed through written coursework that draws on academic study and reflection on practical applications.
