Research Methods in Psychology

This course is for those aiming to develop careers in educational or clinical psychology. Students learn the skills and theory for conducting research. This course is designed to maximise research potential. It should provide a thorough grounding in research methods for anyone wanting to get a research assistant post, apply for doctoral study or enter training for a scientist-practitioner oriented career such as clinical psychology.

Entry requirements

1st or Upper 2nd Class single Honours degree in psychology, or overseas equivalent; 1st or Upper 2nd Class joint Honours degree with psychology as a first or second subject.

Course modules

Modules: quantitative research methodology; analysing discourse and interaction; practical research skills; methods in experimental psychology; software skills.

Assessment methods

Each taught class has its own set of assessments and these range from essays and reports to design and implementation of a computer-based experiment, a press release and an oral presentation.
