Information and Library Studies
This course prepares graduates to perform at the initial professional level in libraries, information services and agencies of all types in both the public and private sector; the course focuses on the essential core skills of library and information work, while providing an opportunity to specialise later in particular aspects of the profession; plus to develop skills and knowledge in digital archiving and organisation of knowledge;
A 1st degree equivalent to a 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK university, although consideration is given to those holding other qualifications in relevant disciplines; applicants whose 1st language is not English are normally required to have a minimum TOEFL paper-based score of 600 (250 in computer-based test); or IELTS score of 6.5.
It includes a practical work placement putting theory into practice: management and marketing of information and library; services; organisation of knowledge; library and information sectors; information retrieval; digital libraries; information sources and services; information policy and law; service management; research methods.
An individual research project on an approved topic, which allows students to pursue an area of specific interest, providing scope for original thought, research and presentation.
