Advanced Software Engineering

Computer science underpins the construction, development and deployment of computer systems. Systems development is of central importance in more and more aspects of modern life and there is an intense and growing need, worldwide, for skilled, advanced computer science professionals. This degree course extends and develops the skills necessary for professional software engineers to design and deploy sophisticated modern software systems in a range of application areas. You will enhance your existing practical software engineering skills, learn new theories of software development and have the opportunity to meet industry employers and participate in recruitment events. This course will provide the necessary qualifications for a skilled position in the computing industry.

Entry requirements

All students are admitted as prospective MChem Honours students.The entry requirements differ depending on the course and are largely a reflection of whether the course carries single or dual professional accreditation. The grades specified should be understood as minimum entry requirements that may be raised at times of exceptional demand. If it is necessary to do this, the higher standard will be applied fairly to the complete applicant field in any given year.

Modules: software architecture and design; advanced topics in software engineering; designing usable systems; distributed information systems; mobile software and applications; personal study; research methods.
