Law and Finance
Normally a 1st Class or 2.1 Honours degree (law/accounting/ finance/banking). Entry may also be possible with relevant professional qualifications.
You will begin with a number of core classes drawn from law, accounting and finance which will introduce you to relevant legal, accounting and financial concepts and principles. Semester Two will also feature 2 core classes and you will then be able to choose from a broad range of law electives. The course will finish in the summer semester where you will do a law project.
Semester 1: Principles of finance; accounting and financial analysis; international banking law.
Semester 2: Advanced corporate finance and applications; financial regulation and compliance.
Summer Semester: Law Project. Indicative list of law electives: Contemporary employment relations; labour law in the global economy; comparative company law; world trade law; UK and EU environmental law; international environment law; law of international business; international investment law; E-commerce; arbitration law; intellectual property law.
For those students that do not have a background in accounting and finance, there will be an optional, non-credit bearing class available which will tell you all you need to know in order to follow the core classes run via the Strathclyde Business School.
Teaching will be delivered through a combination of weekly seminars and lectures. Seminars take the format of small group teaching where reading is distributed in advance and students are expected to come prepared to engage in a discussion of the reading materials. Students on the LLM in Law and Finance will be able to attend regular networking events put on by the Law School as well as any events put on by the Strathclyde Business School.
Assessment in the classes will be through a mixture of exams and written assignments. The course will culminate in the Law project which you will prepare during the summer semester with the help of a supervisor drawn from the Law School's teaching staff.
