Biomedical Sciences

This conversion course is offered to graduates with an interest in developing a research career in an academic, industrial or clinical setting. It introduces biomedical engineering and provides extensive training in research methodology and practice.

Entry requirements

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree in a biology-related subject from UK university; other equivalent qualifications from overseas candidates will also be considered.

Course modules

Students undertake single in-depth project in research lab for approximately 8 months; in addition, there is minimal taught component assessed by coursework comprising: broad research training in presentation, interpersonal and data interpretation skills; choice of practical training in research methods; choice of lectures on advanced-level topics in biomedical sciences; students can opt to take general degree, or choose named specialisation from: biochemistry; biomedical analysis; immunology; microbiology; molecular biology; pharmacology; parasitology; for named specialisation, students normally take courses supporting research topic that they have chosen, e.g. biomedical sciences (biochemistry).

Assessment is based on a research project.
