Accounting and Finance

6 main research groups in department, 3 in accounting and 3 in finance; accounting: Activities of accounting profession; accounting for environment, risk and regulation; comparative international perspectives on financial reporting; finance: market-based accounting and corporate finance group; derivatives group; empirical finance group; there is close collaboration between research students, their supervisors and other members of staff, and students receive active support and training in research methods specific to the needs of the discipline.

Entry requirements

Honours degree and Master's degree in accounting; qualified accountants and part-qualified accountants with 1st degree in social sciences or humanities are also encouraged to apply.

Course modules

Principles of finance; accounting and financial analysis; quantitative methods for finance; international financial markets and banking; advanced corporate finance and applications; advanced accounting; management accounting; security analysis; portfolio theory and management; empirical methods in finance; international accounting; macroeconomics for the business environment; empirical research projects / dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a dissertation.
