Degree is available within any of the departments of the Strathclyde Business School; the programme normally begins with a period of formal study of classes in one of the School's Masters degree programmes; students then select a research topic from the broad area of the Masters programme to reflect individual interests and needs; 1st stage: students study the curriculum of 1 of the School's Masters programmes (typically the MBA) and submit a report on preliminary study in the proposed area of research; 2nd stage: students attend the research methodology in business and management course prepare a full research proposal and a literature review and begin empirical research; 3rd stage: students complete their research and prepare a thesis.
1st or 2nd Class Honours degree together with a sufficient diversity or level of business and management experience appropriate to the research being undertaken; those holding an MBA or other business-related Master's degree or equivalent qualification may be granted exemption of up to 9 months of full-time study or equivalent; prospective candidates are expected to develop an initial proposal for subsequent investigation; selectors look for evidence of sufficiency of initial research personal capability and appropriate business experience.
