This initial teacher training course equips you to share your passion for English with young people and inspire them to fulfil their potential.The course prepares you for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which is an essential qualification for teaching in state-maintained schools The course has 2 strands. The 1st strand is based at the University and provides a solid grounding in theory and practical issues. The 2nd strand is based in partner schools where you will undertake practical teaching experience.
We welcome applications from holders of an honours degree (at least a 2.2) in English Literature and/or English Language. We will also consider other equivalent qualifications. Applicants should have at least grade C in GCSE mathematics and English (or equivalent). Additional requirements include DBS Enhanced Disclosure, completion of a medical pro forma and completion of the Teaching Agency skills tests in literacy and numeracy before starting the course.
Modules may include: MA: Development of learning: a case study; negotiated individual study in education; advanced pedagogical practice; leading organisational effectiveness in education and training; assessment theory into pedagogical practice.
Assessment methods include written work, evidence profiles and assessment of your teaching practice.
