University of Sunderland
The course combines both practice and theory. There are 2 main placements, the 1st of 70 days and the 2nd of 100 days. There is in-depth preparation before the placements and students will be assigned a practice educator on placement who will provide on-going supervision as they work with people with a range of needs including those who are experiencing crisis or social exclusion.
We usually require applicants to hold at least a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent, or a relevant postgraduate qualification. It is also essential that applicants have experience (voluntary or paid) in a setting that is related to social care. This could include volunteering at weekends, evenings, or vacations.
Modules include: The social work context; theories and models for social work practice; preparing for practice; practice placement 1; critical perspectives in social work practice; social work research and dissertation; practice placement 2.
Assessment methods include assignments, written coursework, presentations and workbooks / portfolios
