Occupational and Organisational Psychology

The MSc in occupational and organisational psychology is designed to develop the next generation of evidence-based leaders and practitioners in the field of work and organisational psychology. Hosted in Surrey Business School's People and Organizations Department, the programme is delivered by a strong team of research-active academic faculty. The programme covers the standards of the BPS for occupational psychology, but importantly reflects the core strengths and interests of the course team: leadership and decision making; organisational and hr assessment; quality of working life. You will be learning in an interdisciplinary environment, from faculty who are work, organisational and occupational psychologists, human resource specialists, and experts in organisational behaviour. We will facilitate your learning and development through innovative, high-quality teaching incorporating (for example) case studies, team-working, skills development, guest speakers, and an applied research project, alongside class lectures and academic assignments and assessment.

Entry requirements

A first or 2.1 Honours degree (or recognised equivalent qualification) in psychology, paired with an interest, understanding and / or experience of work, organizational, and business issues as evident from the application form. Following this screening process, we invite suitable applicants to an interview, either face-to-face or via Skype. Students wishing to go on to the Stage 2 Qualification in occupational psychology after the programme will require eligibility for graduate basis for chartered membership (GBC) with the British psychological society (BPS).

Course modules

Core modules: psychological assessment in the workplace; performance, engagement and well-being; organizational behaviour; research methods; the psychology of leadership and decision making; human resource development; advanced research methods for applied psychology.

Assessment methods

You will also be required to present a dissertation comprising an original piece of empirical research within an area of work and organisational psychology. This will be approved and supervised by a member of faculty.
