Medical Microbiology (Euromasters)

This programme combines taught modules with extensive research training, increasing your scientific understanding of Medical Microbiology whilst developing your critical and analytical skills. You will study theoretical aspects of Medical Microbiology which encompass: the biological and pathogenic properties of microbes; their role in health and disease; the reactions of the host to infection; and the scientific basis for the detection, control and antimicrobial treatment of infectious disease.

Example module listing: viral infections; managing research; epidemiology, disease control and public health; microbial genetics and molecular biology; bacterial, protozoal and fungal diseases part 1: diseases; antimicrobial agents and chemotherapy; introduction to immunology; pathogenesis of infectious diseases; research methods 1; research methods 2; critical review of the scientific literature; journal club; research project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include examinations and coursework, which may take the form of essays, data analysis, practical reports or multiple choice questions.
