Micro and Nano Materials and Technologies (MiNMaT)

The programme is designed to develop specialist scientific/technical knowledge whilst working on the sponsor company's commercial research priorities; the research engineers associated with this programme are part of an Industrial Doctorate Centre (IDC) which provides an innovative and transformative research environment in materials science and engineering; the focus of the Centre is the solution of academically challenging and industrially relevant problems, which have at their core the processing microstructure property relationships that are the cornerstones of the discipline; the majority of the research element will be undertaken at the sponsor's premises; research engineers return to the University to attend other elements of the programme such as short courses, conferences and seminars.

Entry requirements

In addition to the appropriate academic qualifications (a 1st or upper 2nd Class degree or a Master's with merit at 60 per cent or above), which are specific to each project, students must: Have settled status in the UK with no restrictions on length of stay; have been ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the funding; not be residing in the UK for wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education (this does not apply to UK or EU nationals) Non-native speakers of English will normally be required to have IELTS 6.5 or above (or equivalent).
