Clinical and Experimental Medicine

The School of Biosciences offers a programme of research seminars and you will be encouraged and supported in presenting your work at national and international conferences. Your research area may be in any branch of medicine that links in with our research portfolio, and if registered on a full-time basis, you should expect to commit approximately two years to research and training activities, plus some time to write up the thesis and take the viva voce exam.

Entry requirements

MD

Registration with the General Medical Council and working within the NHS or approved institution.

PhD

Candidates should have a good honours degree (upper second) in an appropriate discipline, but prior experience in research or industry may be acceptable. Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, independent study is essential, as is a good command of the English language.

Course modules

Research areas are varied, but can include: Sleep and chronobiology; cancer and oncology; diabetes; primary care and clinical informatics; ophthalmology; DNA ageing; critical care; hepatology; surgery.
