The programme provides a respected legal qualification, and can set you on the road to qualification as a barrister, solicitor or other legal professional. This is an intensive, fast-track qualification, which meets the requirements of the Bar Standards Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The Sussex Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) offers the rare opportunity to undertake a year-long dissertation project. This allows you to research and write in-depth about a subject of your choice, with support and advice from your supervisor and the course team. You also have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities such as client interviewing, mock trials, mooting and negotiating. These enable you to hone your legal practice skills, and give you the chance to enter national and international competitions where you will widen your professional network.
A 1st- or 2nd-Class undergraduate Honours degree.
Core modules: Criminal law; dissertation; equity and trusts; introduction to English legal system; land law; law and policy of the European union; public law; self-development and legal education; the law of contract; the law of tort.
You will be assessed mainly through a mix of unseen exams, essays and a dissertation.
