At the University of the Highlands and Islands our reputation is built on our innovative approach to learning and our distinctive research and curriculum. At postgraduate level many of our courses can be studied fully online from anywhere in the world; others are campus-based, where you will have access to research-active subject specialists. We are a multi-campus university with centres across the  north of Scotland. Some courses area available in one location only, for others you may have a choice of campus.

Postgraduate research

Research is undertaken across the university and we are developing a strong reputation in a range of areas, enhanced by exceptional results in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework exercise. 

Funding and Scholarships

The University of the Highlands and Islands has a limited numbers of places with full tuition fee support for full-time students studying in the Highlands and Islands region, starting in September 2017, on the following courses:

  • Applied Bioscience Skills for Industry MSc   
  • Archaeological Practice MSc
  • Archaeological Studies MLitt
  • Art and Social Practice MA (fully online)
  • Aviation MBA
  • Business Administration MBA
  • Developing Low Carbon Communities MSc (fully online)
  • Sustainable Energy Solutions MSc (fully online)
  • Sustainable Rural Development MSc (fully online)

Tuitions fee loans (for full and part-time study) and non-income assessed living cost loans (for full-time students) may be available for eligible students our Masters programmes from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). 

There are other funding sources including: Professional and Career Development Loans from the UK Government and Postgraduate Loans from Student Finance England for students living in England prior to the start of the course.

Careers and Employability Centre

As a postgraduate student with the University of the Highlands and Islands, you will have access to networking and development opportunities. The services of the careers and employability centre will be available to you while you are studying with us and for two years after graduation.
