Education

This course is designed to support the professional development of individuals working in education and training at either further or higher education level. The intention is to strengthen and enhance participants' understanding of educational issues whilst raising their professional profiles. Students are encouraged to discuss and analyse information from a wide range of theoretical perspectives and apply them to their own professional practice. Students have the opportunity to focus studies on an area of professional educational interest whilst developing research skills and an understanding of ethical principles in higher education.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate Honours degree. Candidates must be in employment in education or training. Candidates without academic qualifications but with experience of appropriate professional or administrative responsibility are encouraged to apply. These candidates are required to complete an assessment to assess their suitability. School teachers must be GTC registered in order to follow the PgCert for the schools sector.

Course modules

It is possible to study individual modules for personal or professional development, or work towards the PgCert, PgDip or full Master's degree
Modules include: PgCert: Teaching and learning in higher education or teaching and learning in tertiary education; theory and practice of e-learning; research methods and techniques; qualitative inquiry; professional development; education for all; learning and teaching; working together. PgDip: action research in education; leading and managing remotely; qualitative inquiry; creativity through collaboration; research methods and techniques; developing potential through placement; preparing for Master's level study.
