Archaeological Studies

This course offers students the opportunity to critically engage with the most current archaeological practice, theory and method. Students have the opportunity to study specific periods in more depth and to hone their research skills.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree or above (or international equivalent) in archaeology or a relevant subject, or equivalent academic or professional qualifications. Students whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in all 4 components). Candidates without formal qualifications who possess substantial experience in archaeology or a related field, and/or who may be judged to have demonstrated exceptional abilities are encouraged to apply.

Course modules

It is possible to study individual modules for personal or professional development, or work towards the PgCert, PgDip or full Masters degree Modules include: PgCert: archaeology of the highlands and islands; research and communication skills. PgDip: death and burial archaeology; vikings and norse in the north atlantic; neolithic studies; from vikings to ve day: scottish medieval and later society; iron age scotland in the atlantic world; archaeological and geophysical survey; maritime archaeological heritage; digital heritages; sustainability past and present; excavation.
