Archaeological Practice

The course aims to provide students with the practical skills required to carry out archaeological procedures, together with the intuition to know when to call in the specialists. Students are based in Orkney, home to some of the world�s most renowned archaeological monuments including the Heart of Neolithic Orkney world heritage site.

Entry requirements

2.2 Honours degree or above in archaeology or closely related subject, or equivalent academic or professional qualifications; students may also be considered if able to demonstrate significant professional experience in the field of archaeology; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.

Course modules

It is possible to study individual modules for personal or professional development, or work towards the PgDip or full Masters degree. Modules include: PgDip: cultural heritage management; practical archaeology. Option modules: death and burial archaeology; vikings and norse in the north atlantic; neolithic studies; from vikings to ve day: scottish medieval and later society; iron age scotland in the atlantic world; archaeological and geophysical survey; maritime archaeological heritage; digital heritages; sustainability past and present; excavation. Msc:To achieve the award of MSc Archaeological Practice you must complete a 60 credit professional placement
