This programme involves activities which include areas associated with managing the food supply chain. These areas are broadly covered under the headings of warehousing, transportation, inventory management, systems control and strategic management. The programme in food logistics is concerned with managing the operations in the food industry and logistics sector. The discipline embraces environmental performance/impact and sustainability as well as developing the key areas of logistics operations and strategic management. The aims of this programme are to enable students to assess strategically a range of food logistics issues whilst developing realistic cost effective solutions and providing an in-depth understanding of a range of business, technological and economic aspects which effect food logistics operations.
A 2.2 Honours degree or above in an appropriate discipline. Applicants with equivalent qualifications will be considered individually. Personal, professional and educational experience is advantageous.
Part 1: Research methods; procurement and contract management; energy, environmental and sustainability; food logistics operations; food supply chain management; strategic management and contemporary issues in the food industry. Part 2: Major project.
These include examinations and written coursework.
