Public Service Management

The programme covers the general business/management curriculum, with an opportunity to specialise in public service management. All students are encouraged to apply concepts learned as well as become familiar with theoretical paradigms.

Entry requirements

Applicants must possess 1 or more of the following: A recognised Honours degree or equivalent; a professional qualification. Applicants who do not meet these criteria may be admitted to the course provided their professional or managerial experience is deemed to be appropriate. Applicants who have been awarded a diploma in business administration at distinction level, or an equivalent postgraduate, post experience management diploma at credit level 7 may be admitted with exemption from modules in part 1. International students for whom English is not a native language will be requested to provide evidence of sufficient command of spoken and written English to meet the demands of the programme in accordance with university requirements, normally at least IELTS at 6.0.

Course modules

Part 1: Financial management; human resource management; marketing management; strategic management; students study 2 pathway specific modules; managing resources in public organisations; consultancy management. Part 2: Students are required to undertake an in-depth business research exercise.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by coursework. This may take various forms, work-based projects, small research projects, presentations, case study analysis and the dissertation.
