Sports and Leisure Management
On this programme you will develop both the academic and practical skills necessary to understand the modernisation and commercialisation of the sport and leisure industries, identifying the key influencing agencies and trends which contribute to effective management of sport and leisure organisations. The broad range of perspectives that you will be encouraged to explore will enable you to review the challenges of serving and responding to the global sport and leisure landscape. Alongside specialist sports and leisure modules, your programme includes study of the core functional and leadership skills you need to progress in any organisation.
A recognised Honours degree or equivalent. A professional qualification. Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may be admitted to the course provided their professional or managerial experience is deemed to be appropriate. Applicants who have been awarded a diploma in business administration at distinction level, or an equivalent postgraduate, post experience management diploma at credit level 7 may be admitted with exemption from modules in part 1. Students for whom English is not a native language require at least IELTS at 6.0.
Part 1: Financial management; human resource management; marketing management; strategic management; students study 2 pathway specific modules; emerging issues in sport and leisure; global business of sport and leisure. Part 2: Students are required to undertake an in-depth business research exercise.
Modules are assessed by coursework. This may take various forms such as work-based projects, small research projects, presentations, case study analysis and the dissertation.
