Advanced Vocal Studies
The emphasis is on critical musical and vocal aspects of performance; the dramatic elements of performance are also studied, particularly in preparation of our public performances through regular group sessions in the Stanislawski method; this work forms the basis of all staged or semi staged performances; students receive regular 1 to 1 tuition, in vocal technique, art song, concert repertoire, languages and operatic repertoire central to their careers; they are required to master and memorise 2 new operatic roles in the original language; there are also group events in audition technique and preparation, recitative classes and ensemble work; importance is given to developing a thorough knowledge of repertoire and of concert and recital material and the research and selection of the same, to develop self reliance and self awareness with artistic confidence.
Applications are by audition in the 1st instance; to apply singers should send a copy of their CV and a CD recording of 2 arias or songs with a covering letter to the academy address; if successful a live audition is then be offered.
Vocal technique; operatic repertoire and performance; art song repertoire and performance; history and understanding of opera tradition in relation to the vocal performer; professional development in practice and application.
