Students study various aspects of teaching information technology (IT) to pupils, including lesson planning, resource preparation and selection, teaching approaches for examination courses, class management and control, assessment of attainment, and the impact of IT on learning.

Entry requirements

Degree may be in a computing subject, or any other subject which has involved a substantial amount of constructive use of information technology (IT) to produce systems for others to use; the applicant may have worked with complex document or presentation templates, handling databases, modelling with spreadsheets, programming, statistical analysis, web site design or graphic design, for instance; alternatively, the applicants' IT background may be from work experience, in which case the subject of their degree is not important; in addition, applicants must have GCSEs or equivalent in mathematics and English at grade C or above; Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure.

Course modules

Curriculum studies; information communications technology (ICT) in subject teaching; professional studies.

Assessment methods

During the year the students' complete and submit coursework assignments in both their curriculum studies subject; during school placements teachers and tutors formally observe and assess a number of the students' lessons and at the end of each term the students receive a written report which summarises their progress towards meeting the required standard.
