The course teaches the principles and practicalities of teaching this important national curriculum subject; students receive first class training, both in the university and our partner schools, with academic and personal support.
Degree in a subject suitably related to design and technology, and GCSE grade C in English and mathematics or equivalent; suitable degree subjects could include: 2- and 3-dimensional design; furniture production management; furniture design; furniture and related product design; furniture restoration; jewellery restoration; jewellery making; product design; architecture; industrial architecture; landscape architecture; graphic and interior design; fine art; technology; materials science; mechanical engineering; civil engineering; electrical and electronic engineering; structural engineering; food science; textiles and fashion; Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure.
Curriculum studies; information communications technology (ICT) in subject teaching; professional studies.
During the year the students' complete and submit coursework assignments in both their curriculum studies subject; during school placements teachers and tutors formally observe and assess a number of the students' lessons and at the end of each term the students receive a written report which summarises their progress towards meeting the required standard.
