All candidates must satisfy the Board of Graduate Studies' requirements for entry. All candidates must have experience in teaching and be currently actively involved in teaching activities. Candidates will be educated to 1st degree level and normally be healthcare professionals. Applicants for research degree modules should normally possess a 1st degree of at least upper 2nd Class Honours standard or the equivalent and/or a Master's degree or its equivalent. The requirement for a 1st degree may be waived in the case of post-experience modules for candidates who can demonstrate sufficient relevant work experience.
Core modules: essentials of clinical education; becoming an effective teacher; evidence and values in clinical education; assessment in clinical education; research methods in clinical education. Optional modules: healthcare ethics; developing leaders in clinical education; introduction to management in health service organisations; learning technologies in healthcare education.
Each module is assessed by a 4,000-word written assignment. The 1st 2 assignments include a reflective teaching portfolio. The professional project assessment is a report of 8,000-10,000 words. The dissertation assessment requires completion of a piece of individual work of 15,000-20,000 words.
