This is a flexible programme designed to address the higher educational needs of health care professionals involved in the delivery of teaching and training in the health care environment; students have the opportunity to: develop knowledge about the theory and principles for learning and teaching and how to apply these methods to healthcare education; enhance skills in relation to teamwork and communication; learn to plan efficient and effective educational experiences, and to successfully deliver teaching sessions; study the principles of assessment and feedback and develop sound academic skills, including literature review and research.
Applicants should normally possess a first degree of at least a 2nd Class Honours degree standard or the equivalent; the requirement for a first degree may be waived in the case of post-experience modules for candidates who can demonstrate sufficient relevant work experience; applicants who do not possess the level of qualifications outlined above may, nevertheless, are eligible for admission for postgraduate modules, where applicable, on the basis of previous work experience or training.
Modules include: Assessment and evaluation; essentials of clinical education; becoming an effective teacher; evidence and values in clinical education; research methods in clinical education; clinical systems improvement; communication skills (education methods and effective clinical practice; developing leaders in healthcare education; health care ethics; introduction to management in health service organisations; managing people in health service organisations; patient and public involvement in healthcare; theory and practical techniques in self-management.
