Managing People in Health Service Organisations
This is a 5-day taught module followed by an assignment; this course appeals to all health and social care professionals who have managerial responsibilities; these may range from managing a team, a practice, a hospital or a locality; the course enables students to improve their understanding of the effective management of human resources and the management of inter-personal relationships within health service organisations; students gain an understanding of the concept of human resources; the importance of managing internal and external relationships, investing in staff development and managing performance; knowledge of formal and informal methods for managing the performance of individuals: appraisal, performance management processes, disciplinary processes; knowledge and understanding of strategic human resource management; understanding the role of talent management; knowledge of the wider range of professionals involved in health care and the importance of concepts in leadership.
2.2 Honours in a 1st degree of an approved university in a relevant discipline or disciplines; students with a 1st language that is not English are expected to obtain 1 of the following recognised English language qualifications: IELTS (British council international testing system) of at least 6.5 with 6.5 in reading and writing; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of at least 92 (internet-based iBT), PTE 62, CAE 60+ or CPE.
