Critical Care Transfer
This course is taught in 6 days over a 6-week period; this module addresses the needs of both air paramedics and, in certain situations, doctors wishing to undertake level 2 and level 3 transfers; this module promotes and fosters a multidisciplinary approach to patient care; students gain an understanding of the concepts and theories surrounding the issues of emergency practice; the teaching and learning style is interactive, drawing on both the expert teachers and the experience of the student's; the aim of this module is to provide the student with a theoretical framework for the acquisition of a range of clinical skills relevant to the transfer of critically ill/injured patients leading towards competence in managing critical care transfers; these skills support the student in the preparation and management of patients requiring level 2 and level 3 critical care transfers; the background and context in which these patients are assessed, monitored and packaged, form the core content of this module; the skills are supported by the relevant theoretical concepts and knowledge.
Lower 2nd Class Honours in a 1st degree of an approved university in a relevant discipline or disciplines; applicants whose 1st language is not English require 1 of the following qualifications, IELTS of at least 6.5 with 6.5 in both reading and writing or equivalent, TOEFL of at least 92 (internet-based iBT) or PTE 62.
Students undertake an assignment to demonstrate more in-depth study, review of the literature and/or critical application of the knowledge and skills gained in the taught part of the module; a 1,500-2,000 word assignment, a 1 hour examination and a 20 minute presentation are required to gain 20 CATS credits from the module.
