Essentials of Clinical Education
This is a 9-day taught module followed by an assignment and is available as a stand-alone PGA or as a module within the MSC medical education; the module offers a flexible method of learning to meet the educational and development needs of practitioners who are involved in teaching or training students or trainees, whether as individual learners or in groups in any public, private or voluntary health care environment; this course enables participants to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to provide sound educational experiences for learners in a clinical environment; participants acquire the ability to design, plan and manage learning experiences for groups of trainees or for learners on a 1 to 1 basis; the course aims to help practitioners make good use of teaching and learning activities in clinical practice, and to put effective assessment systems into place.
Upper 2nd Class Honours in a 1st degree of an approved university in a relevant discipline or disciplines; students with a 1st language that is not English are expected to obtain 1 of the following recognised English language qualifications: IELTS (British Council International Testing System) of at least 6.5; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of at least 600 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based iBT).
Introduction to teaching; how to teach a practical skill; how to give a presentation; giving feedback on performance; dealing with problem trainees; evaluation and planning of a 1 day course; on the job teaching; learning styles and strategies.
