Evidence and Values in Clinical Education
This is a 5-day taught module followed by an assignment and is available as a stand-alone PGA or as a module within the MSC medical education; this module aims to equip students with a critical understanding of the complex interrelationships between evidence and values which underpin the practice and development of clinical education; this module is taken after the modules which make up the postgraduate certificate (essentials of clinical education, assessment and evaluation, becoming an effective teacher); with this module, the emphasis of the MMedEd course shifts from preparation for effective professional practice to development of a deeper critical understanding of the underpinning research, theory and values.
Applicants usually need at least an upper 2nd Class Honours in a 1st degree of an approved university in a relevant discipline or disciplines; before taking this module, you should have successfully completed the requirements of the postgraduate certificate in medical education (which represents achievement of the HEAs national professional standards for higher education); students must either have already completed the following modules: 'essentials of clinical education'; 'assessment and evaluation'; and 'becoming an effective teacher'; or, completed a Masters level postgraduate certificate in education (relevant to clinical education) at another institution and/or achieved fellowship of the higher education academy; if your 1st language is not English, you are expected to obtain 1 of the following recognised English language qualifications: IELTS (British Council International Testing System) of at least 6.5; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of at least 600 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based iBT); if you are in any doubt about the suitability of your qualifications and experiences, please contact the course co-ordinator or our postgraduate admissions team.
