University of Warwick

This comprehensive research programme provides exceptionally high quality training in advanced economics, giving candidates outstanding opportunities to understand, appreciate, and contribute to frontier research. The first 2 years of taught coursework lead to the award of the MRes degree (for candidates satisfying all of the requirements). Those students, who pass the MRes at a sufficiently high level of performance (65% average in year one and in year two, and a mark of 65% for the dissertation) may then proceed to the PhD programme.

Entry requirements

1st Class Honours degree or equivalent from top institutions. We will also consider applications from MSc graduates with distinction. All applicants are expected to have taken the GRE General Test no more than 5 years before applying. Most successful MRes/PhD applicants will have scores 800/166 or higher in the quantitative section. Candidates whose 1st language is not English must present an English Language Test certificate. We currently require an IELTS score of 7.0.
The main route into PhD Economics at Warwick is now through the MRes programme. We will consider applicants without the Warwick MRes but they must hold an equivalent MRes or equivalent training.
