Complexity Science

This course teaches a coherent core of complexity science concepts which unify the field across disciplines, including: dynamics and diffusion; interacting agents and networks; coherent structures, emergence and self-organisation; up scaling and model reduction; quantification of complexity, scaling and extreme events, probabilistic modelling and statistical inference; feedback and control; diversity, optimisation and evolution.

Entry requirements

1st or at least an Upper 2nd Class undergraduate degree in a scientific, mathematical or analytical subject, with some orientation towards modelling problems in quantitative mathematical terms; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 92 or PTE 62.

Course modules

Modules include: Self-organisation and emergence; complexity science in the real world; complexity in the time domain: dynamics of non-linear low dimensional systems; advanced statistical methods; time series from a stochastic viewpoint; micro to macro: PDE methods and applications; quantifying correlation and spatio-temporal complexity; skills module: Warwick interdisciplinary science transferable skills.
