Diamond Science and Technology

This course will appeal to those who wish to explore materials science from a multidisciplinary and collaborative perspective. The programme covers classical and quantum physics, with an emphasis on diamond and application-driven themes.

Entry requirements

2.2 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, materials science, earth science, engineering or a related subject. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5, band A.

Course modules

Modules include: methods of material synthesis; properties and characterisation of materials; defects and dopants; theory and modelling of materials; manufacturing the future; surfaces, interfaces and coatings; devices and fabrication; diamond photonics and quantum devices; applications of high performance materials; electrochemistry and sensors; biomedical optics and applications; research project.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by: in module assessment; exam based assessment. Research project assessed by: poster presentation; written assessment.
