Research supervision available within following broad areas: Italian Renaissance; early modern (16th to 17th centuries); 18th- and 19th-century Britain and Europe; modern Britain and Europe; history of medicine; Americas, Africa and Asia; students taking MA by research will take historical research module and write 40,000-word dissertation; PhD students write 80,000-word dissertation; all research students attend graduate research forum 1 and 2 in department dealing with questions of: archive research; ethics of historical practice; and the presentation of historical material within and outside the faculty; critical reading groups; and presentations of papers; Arts Faculty Training Programme offers sessions on practical and theoretical issues of humanities research.

Entry requirements

Good degree with evidence of ability to carry out independent research; for MPhil/PhD, normally an MA or equivalent; IELTS score of 7.0, TOEFL iBT 100, PTE 70, CAE 60+ or CPE required for applicants whose 1st language is not English.

AHRC Research Preparation Masters Scheme; AHRC Doctoral Awards Scheme; ESRC 1+3 and +3 studentships; Warwick Postgraduate Research Fellowships; Wellcome Trust studentships (topics on history of medicine).
