Year 1: Training in research is supplemented by formal teaching in lectures and seminars; lecture programme consists of a reading course and 2 other courses which candidates select from a variety of options such as disordered materials; structure and properties of non-metallic solids; magnetic resonance; neutron and synchrotron studies of solids; semiconductor layer structures; phase transitions; many body theory; techniques of surface physics; supervision available for research in main areas of: experimental condensed matter physics; surface science; structural and materials physics; semiconductor physics; theoretical physics; space and astrophysics.

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree in physics or in an appropriate related discipline (materials science, electronics, mathematics, physical chemistry); English language requirements: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (iBT) 92, PTE 62, CAE 60+ or CPE.
