Composition (Electronic Music)

This course is aimed equally at composers of electronic music in the traditional sense and contemporary artists who may combine the role of composer with producer, engineer, musician and DJ. It assumes a prior level of competence in composition and/or music sequencing and production. The course encompasses a broad range of electronic music, from popular electronic dance music styles to art forms such as electroacoustic music. Composition studies include 1-to-1 tutorials in an area of electronic music to be negotiated between student and lecturer. Students also examine the history and important concepts in electronic music, the creation of sound installations and live performances and options that can include the theory and practice of sequencing, sound synthesis, sampling, production techniques and the use of Max/MSP.
