Advancing Practice

This programme is aimed at all health and social care staff who are looking to develop their knowledge and skills as advanced practitioners.

Entry requirements

1st degree (or equivalent professional qualification) in a health or social care related subject (for example a nursing/physiotherapy/social work degree); working as a health and social care professional (usually at least 2 years full-time or equivalent), with a significant professional experience for advancing practice; applicants whose 1st language is not English require either IELTS 6.5 or above including a minimum 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components, TOEFL internet-based test 90 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test.

Course modules

Modules include: role development; becoming an advanced practitioner; advanced skills for advanced clinical assessment; independent and supplementary prescribing; advanced management of diabetes; advanced wound care; advanced respiratory care; advanced cardiac care; sexual health; infection control; public health; health and social care (strategic choices managing quality); managing relationships; research methods; dissertation.
