Advancing Practice (Midwifery)

This programme is aimed at all health and social care staff who are looking to develop their knowledge and skills as advanced practitioners and specifically within a substance misuse context.

Entry requirements

A 1st degree in midwifery; to be working as a midwife (usually at least 2 years full-time or equivalent), with a significant professional experience for advancing practice; applicants who do not have a 1st degree but possess substantial work experience are asked to complete a questionnaire and to present an essay/report; applicants whose 1st language is not English require either IELTS 6.5 or above including a minimum 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components, TOEFL internet-based test 90 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test.

Course modules

Modules include: role development; becoming an advanced practitioner; influences on women's experiences of childbirth; the context and background of midwifery as a profession; mental health and the childbearing woman; research methods; dissertation.
