Art Direction for Film and Television

Students learn practical production design techniques backed up by research, and closely track new developments in film and TV design; students create work using conventional film and television industry approaches to design and art direction, whilst challenging existing output; the programme the innovation process with an emphasis on design research methods, from framing an initial challenge to inspiration, insight, synthesis, idea and concept; it addresses the key transitions between articulating needs and designing solutions for those needs; students create designs that convert creative ideas into action and products.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree in an arts or humanities discipline, and relevant work experience; applications from a range of academic and professional backgrounds are considered on an individual basis; where possible applicants are interviewed and the university looks for a serious engagement with film making in general; applicants whose 1st language is not English require either IELTS 6.5 or above including a minimum 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components, TOEFL internet-based test 90 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test.
