Creative Writing (Writing the City)
This course allows students to explore London as subject matter from a range of perspectives and across all genres. The programme also gives students a theoretical and practical platform from which to develop their understanding.
A good Honours degree or equivalent in a humanities based subject. Applications from candidates without formal qualifications but with relevant work experience in creative industries (theatre, performance, journalism, publishing) are welcome. Applicants whose native language is not English require an IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent.
Core modules: conflict and the city (writing drama); language and the imagination (poetic writing); tales of the city (prose writing); creative practice; mapping the city; the writing business; the writing project; plus options chosen from; London vortex (20th century literature and the city); reading contemporary culture; reading the nation; sociolinguistics; urban cultures; written discourse analysis.
