International and Commercial Dispute Resolution Law
This course provides an opportunity for in-depth study of the substantive and procedural issues involved in the field, and also the acquisition of skills involved in some of the processes. It is centrally concerned with law and other rules (international and commercial) which are applicable in adjudication and also in the other dispute resolution processes.
A good Honours degree in law or a non-law subject from a UK university, or the equivalent from a non-UK university. Applications from candidates with relevant experience or equivalent qualifications are welcomed. Applicants whose 1st language is not English, should have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent in each of the elements. Pre-sessional summer programmes are not normally appropriate for this course.
Core modules: perspectives on conflicts and disputes; postgraduate dissertation; research theory and practice; option modules: litigation; international commercial litigation; private international law: substantive commercial; arbitration; comparative commercial arbitration: law and practice; foreign direct investment arbitration; international commercial arbitration; meditation; mediation: concepts, evolution and practice; negotiation; negotiation: theory, contexts and practice; public international; peaceful settlement of international disputes; adjunct discipline; comparative law.
Assessment methods include coursework (during the module); by exam (at the end of the module); and a dissertation of 15,000 words on an agreed relevant topic.
