Medical Education

This course develops students as providers, planners or managers of medical/health-related education, and enables them to undertake educational research into their own practice. The course is accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators.

Entry requirements

Normally a 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or a professional qualification in a relevant subject and an on-going role in medical education.

Course modules

Indicative modules: professional education and development; improving practice, (assessment); improving practice (curriculum); practitioner research.

Assessment methods

Assessments for each module are the equivalent of 4,000 words per 20 credits. Most assignments are in the form of a research project within a medical educational field of the student's choice. It involves a large amount of independent study, with support from a supervisor. In the final year, dissertation supervision is provided individually, face-to-face or by phone or email.
