Palliative and End of Life Care
This award aims to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills in the principles and practice of holistic palliative/end of life care.
MSc: Applicants must previously have studied and passed 120 credits at certificate level (level 4) or equivalent, 120 credits at diploma level (level 5) or equivalent and 120 credits at degree level (level 6) before commencing this course. Applicants should hold current registration as a healthcare professional and be employed in an appropriate setting with access to individuals with palliative/end of life care needs (e.g. hospital, hospice, nursing home, community etc.) Ideally, applicants should already have a clear understanding of the contemporary issues relating to the speciality and the impact of these upon care provision. If English is not the 1st language students need to have a TOEFL score of 550 or above, or an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or evidence of English proficiency equivalent to these scores.
Challenges and opportunities: the power of policy in the delivery of palliative and end of life care; the impact of frailty for an ageing population; life-limiting progressive illness and the impact of dementia ; the capacity and influence of advanced communication in assessing psychopathology; developing the scope of practice for adults with life-limiting diagnoses (blended learning); the impact of frailty for an ageing population; life-limiting progressive illness and the impact of dementia awareness of research (non nurse); advanced enquiries for nurses and allied health professionals (c) ; the impact of frailty for an ageing population (co); life-limiting progressive illness and the impact of dementia; masters dissertation; evidence based practice project; consultancy project.
